What is their musical style? Members of Antioquia will currently answer "progress rock meets Afrocolombian rhythm," "tropical rock fusion" or simply, "musica para la revolucion." Their music has also been called "a schizophrenic journey where no musical stone is left unturned," "funked-out world slap fusion," and "I'm not really sure." In any case, the music created by these gentlemen and lady can only be truly and accurately described as, well, "Antioquia" - - and is something that must be experienced at least once. Antioquia's live show is a feast of sound that can never be predicted - served with tremendous energy and a spirit of experimentation and spontaneity that keeps fans guessing what they'll do next. For those who love to dance, Antioquia offers the driving rhythms of Brasil, Cuba, West Africa and of course the Carribean cost of Colombia from which Antioquia derives their name. For those who perfer to sit back and listen, Antioquia's music carries a depth of sound that will surprise the listener that there are only 4 people on stage and a sense of dynamic that will keep the avid music lover pleasantly surprised. Antioquia views their music as more than just a desire to create music. They feel strongly about the power of music to inspire change, both personal and societal. The band's politics are strongly influenced by the non-violence work of Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr, and within their lyrics can be found strong sentiments about American foreign policy as well as more personal reactions... towards America's treatment of the Colombian people and the so-called "drug war" (in "Guerra"), the effects of war on the human psyche seen in returning soldiers (in "PTSD" and "Curulao"), and the poetic lyrics of "Humans Do" speaking of the hypocrisy inherent in the monetary system. In action, Antioquia is an affiliate of a project called "Fans With Cans," a not-for-profit which asks bands to collect non-perishable food at their shows and matches these donations. Antioquia strives to find simple ways to help local and global communities in meaningful and practical ways, and encourages thir fans to do the same. With the band's highly-anticipated debut album produced by Ben Yonas (www.yonasmedia.com) set to be unveiled at a springtime CD release festival, and big plans for a fall tour to South America, Antioquia is very excited about 2008.
